Satin ribbons laced on my white ballet shoes
Graceful arms and movement to a music romance
Dancing ballerina holding poise and stance.
Cozy slouching leggings and a shoulder strap
Standing in a line while I learned to tap
Shuffle one…shuffle two; music with your feet
Stepping cross the floor to staccato beat.
Sequined dresses short with a stitch of blue
Zipping to the knees- white skin-hugging boots
Twirling, tossing, catching with a thin baton
Marching majorette confident she’ll hold on.
Ballet shoes have taught me poise in situations tough
I have learned to tap around when others act rough
Confident and marching on to living’s hard parade
The classes of my childhood were lifetime lessons made.
